Year 12 Art students visited the University of Cambridge botanic gardens and the Fitzwilliam Museum on the last Thursday of September 2018.
It was a lovely sunny day to explore the 40 acres of beautiful gardens and the glass houses which display the collection of the University of Cambridge. Students were able to draw plants and flowers to support their development of the theme ‘natural forms’. Art students enjoyed the freedom to explore and take inspiration from nature.
In the afternoon, we visited the Fitzwilliam Museum which houses an extensive collection of artwork and artefacts from ancient to modern times. Students studied items from the collection focusing on the use of natural forms by artists and makers.
Year 12 Art students are now using the information and drawings that they produced on the trip to develop sketchbook work before developing a final outcome based on the natural world.
