A Level Politics

Course Summary

You will study the workings of government and political culture in the United Kingdom and the United States. You will also study the political ideologies of liberalism, socialism, conservatism and feminism. The course is particularly interesting as you will study the current events, issues, controversies and scandals of contemporary politics in conjunction with political theory and historical developments. Every day activities in Downing Street and the White House; Parliament and Congress; Fleet Street and Wall Street will raise important issues for debate.

Where can A-level Politics take me? Many students who study A Level Politics progress to a university degree, and there are many degree courses that A Level Politics can suit. Politics students often continue the subject at degree level or take a related subject such as History, International Relations, Journalism or Law.

Whether jumping straight into employment after completing your A Levels, or completing a university course first, A Level Politics can lead to some interesting careers such as in the Civil Service, as a Policy officer or as a Political risk analyst. There are also a range of careers in which the skills learned at A Level Politics can be particularly useful, including: Detective, Diplomatic service officer, Local government officer, journalist or Public relations officer.
