A Level Product Design

A Level Product Design

Course Summary

Design and Technology at ‘A’ level allows students the opportunity to exercise their initiative, imagination and resourcefulness in real world design problems. Throughout Year 12, students will expand their understanding of product design through hands-on units with in-built theory content. Year 13 is spent undertaking an independent Design and Make project called the NEA which is assessed as part of the final grade.

Careers / Progression

This versatile and thought-provoking qualification gives students the practical problem-solving skills, theoretical knowledge and confidence to succeed in several careers; especially those in the creative industries. “A” level product design is a creative qualification and because it demonstrates so many diverse skills it is valued as a gateway subject to various university degrees. Past students have progressed to degree level reading subjects such a Car Design (Coventry), 3D design (Manchester) and Product Design (Sheffield Hallam). It is also recognised as a pathway to less obvious degrees such as architecture, engineering, gaming, TV & Theatre set design.
