“What how many UK students applied to university in 2014?” (41,000), “What percentage of applicants to medical school get in?” (15%)
- just some of the questions answered as Braintree Sixth Form hosted Alec Hunter Year 10 students for a day of Progression, Social Science, Media and Science workshops. The progression and Higher Education workshop saw students exploring the UCAS (university central admissions service) website and provided advice on how to make post 16 choices. In the Science practical workshop students used gas syringes to investigate the effects of various concentrations of hydrogen peroxide on catalase activity in yeast. In Social Science students were introduced to topics from the BSF Psychology and Sociology courses including euthanasia and the concept of deviance and in Media students made a critical analysis of a Miley Cyrus video. “I really enjoyed the day and the Sixth Form experience. Interesting to find out more about my options after GCSEs” (Year 10 student).
