D of E Gold Assessment, Sunday 19 - Wednesday 24 October

The green desert, that's what the locals call it. Mile upon mile of featureless moorland, undulating dunes of bog, heather and tussock grass. It is through this pathless wilderness that our intrepid students trudged, slowed by buffeting winds, hail and rain, the cruel remnants of hurricane Gonzalo.

In October Year 12 A level and IB students had the opportunity to visit the Curwen Print Study Centre near Cambridge.  They were able to work with artist printmakers and use professional printmaking equipment.

On Wednesday 16 July, Year 12 IB students were off timetable for an Extended Essay Day.  The day aimed to give students a better idea of why they were writing an extended essay and what is required of them by revisiting the IB points rubric and looking at how to write in an academic form.

Taster Days

Over the past month the Sixth Form has been running a series of master classes and taster lessons for Year 10 students from across the partnership.   Students from Tabor Academy visited us for a morning of Science, trying their hand at making aspirin, testing the permeability of cell membranes and working with transistors.

On Thursday 19 June, all Year 12 students participated in a UCAS ‘launch day’. The purpose of the day was to introduce all aspects of the university admissions system and to give students the opportunity to register with UCAS and begin their applications.

Cevennes Trip, Year 12 IB Students, 1 - 6 June

Year 12 IB students spent the first week of June in the Cevennes National Park, France. The student’s base was the brilliant Eagle’s Nest field centre, which is situated at an altitude of 1300m.  The centre provided them with a variety of activities to complete as well as a constant supply of excellent food.

On Thursday April 24 April Sixth Form students were privileged to attend a talk by Holocaust speaker Mr Otto Deutsch who spoke about his experiences of growing up in Nazi-occupied Austria and the Kindertransport. Students said they found the talk both interesting and thought-provoking.

On Monday 17 March 25 Geography students from Year 12 and 13 travelled to the field studies centre in Snowdonia National Park for a week to undertake fieldwork in preparation for their upcoming exams.

We are delighted to announce our best ever IB results. Our staff and students were in the Sixth Form on Saturday morning to receive the news that we have a 100% pass rate in the Diploma this year.
