Year 12 Model United Nations activities which have been running during TP1 concluded with our mock UN General Assembly (World Parliament) on 21 April.  Students had spent time researching and planning persuasive presentations for their proposed Resolutions to global issues.

Matt Thomas on behalf of the Human Rights Committee, highlighted recent news stories and proposed the Resolution that the UN should donate money to support Turkey in managing the refugee crisis and reduce the loss of life as migrants try to cross by sea to Turkey.  All delegates voted and this resolution was agreed.  Other Resolutions proposed by Committees included the Environmental Committee of Greece (also known as 12S) requested UN funding to develop GM crops, creating jobs in agriculture for Greek citizens: The Education Committee of Russia (12I)  requested funding to provide more higher education places so that young men have the choice not to become conscripted into the army; The Economic Committee of Italy (120) requested UN investment in southern Italian businesses to support the economy and cut down organised crime (mafia); The Human Rights Committee of Egypt (12X) requested that UN advisors and inspectors help and guide Egypt in ensuring that child labour laws are enforced and The Environmental Committee of China (12H) requested funds to support China in developing renewable energy and moving away from using damaging fossil fuels.
