Creative industries are now worth £8 million an hour to the UK economy. Official statistics show that the UK’s creative industries, which includes the film, television and music industries, generate over £71.4 billion per year and account for over 1.7 million jobs.

The UK creative industries are renowned across the globe driving growth, investment and tourism. (Dept for Culture, Media & Sport, Jan 2014, www.gov.uk.)

Small wonder then that BSF has so many students progressing on to Higher Education courses in areas such as Architecture, Drama and Theatre, Fashion, Fine Art, Furniture Design and Music Technology. A level Textiles students took part in a fashion show to model their designs. Jasmine Dawson’s work so impressed the admissions staff on the Hand Embroidery for Fashion, Interiors and Textile Art course at University College, London that she was made an unconditional offer. The Midsummer Arts Festival provided an excellent opportunity for them to showcase their skill and creativity with work from A level Art, Drama, Music, Music Technology, Product Design and Textiles. Musical entertainment was provided by AS Music and Music Technology Students and George Orton and Georgia Willis performed highly skilful monologues from their AS Drama course. The event proved very popular with many visitors commenting on the high quality of the work.
