The DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) mentoring programme has launched once again for this academic year.
The scheme involves Year 12 students acting as mentors to Year 7 pupils to develop their reading skills. Students listen to the Year 7 pupils read during registration time, and help them to choose appropriate and relevant texts.
‘The DEAR Mentoring programme really helps both the younger students and the older students in terms of reading and communicating with one another.’
Georgia Bannister, Year 12 Student
‘I think it is positive for both parties – it gives me something positive to do and some responsibility.’
Greg Mansfield, Year 12 Student
‘It helped me when I was younger and I enjoy sharing a story.’
Lindsey Hope, Year 12 Student
‘I think it is good because I get to read aloud to someone and I get positive feedback.’
Harry Eustace, Year 7 Student
‘It is good because it can improve your reading and you can read out loud.’
Ella Webb, Year 7 Student
