 ‘Speed – it’s a limit not a target’

Just one student’s reaction to the Roadster event, led by Essex Highways, for Year 12 students at Braintree Sixth form on 12 November.

The focus of the day was road safety and awareness.  Students participated in 6 different workshops run by Essex Police, Fire Service, road safety officers, St John Ambulance and local driving schools. All students also had the chance to take to the roads themselves, driving dual controlled cars around the tennis courts! At the end of the day, all students received a free copy of the Highway Code to assist them on their journey to becoming safe drivers. The students really enjoyed the day and learnt a great deal, as highlighted in this selection of comments from their evaluations:

‘Seatbelts save lives’

‘I learnt that it is illegal to use your phone and drive.’

‘There is no point in drinking and driving – it is never worth the risk.’

‘Really useful to learn how to put someone in the recovery position’

‘I learnt how to drive! Really gave me confidence.’

Thank you to all Year 12 students for their exemplary behaviour and sensitive responses throughout the day and to all the external providers who contributed both their time and expertise.
